The Sumter Community Concert Band was founded in 1982 with four major purposes: * To provide an opportunity for individual musical expression and growth among its members through the rehearsal and performance of band literature * To contribute positively to the musical environment of the area it serves * To provide an opportunity for contact among qualified musicians, and * To reaffirm the community concert band position in American music.

Managed by a board of directors elected from within the membership, Sumter Community Concert Band is a non-profit, tax-exempt corporation dependent on membership dues, patron contributions, and grants. The Sumter Community Concert Band is partially funded by the South Carolina Arts Commission, which receives support from the National Endowment for the Arts. SCCB is a member of the Association of Concert Bands. We're all volunteers. We're teachers, doctors, nurses, lawyers, homemakers, retired folks, active and retired military, band directors, professional musicians -- you name it. The one thing we have in common -- a love of music and a desire to share our music with our community.
