Easter Movie Night at Patriot Park rescheduled to April 1, 2024
We are rescheduling our Easter Movie Night to Monday, April 1, 2024, as we want everyone to be able to put out blankets and chairs and remain dry and comfy. Easter Bunny will still be on hand at 6:30 p.m. for an Easter Egg Hunt and the movie will begin at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free and concessions will be available.

Sumter County Council's March 26 , 2024, meeting
Sumter County Council Tuesday evening dealt with land use matters and more during its regular meeting.
Sumter City-County Planning Director Helen Roodman spoke first about a request to amend Article 3 and Article 5 to correct and update certain North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) References.
No one spoke during a Public Hearing. Second reading was approved.
Sumter County Attorney Johnathan Bryan spoke next about an ordinance authorizing the sale of vacant property located at 13 South Main Street for $170,000.
First reading was approved.
Sumter County Administrator Gary Mixon spoke about an ordinance to amend the 2023-24 budget to allow the purchase of a bulldozer for Sumter County Public Works.
The total amount of $466,000 was approved with a first reading.
Councilman Carlton Washington spoke next and gave a presentation about possible action concerning dirt roads.
An ordinance to amend the Sumter County Business License Ordinance saw third reading approved.
Chairman James T. McCain Jr. noted the Fiscal, Tax and Property Committee met earlier and that motions regarding the property sale and bulldozer already carried.
A Special Meeting was also held, he said, and an Executive Session was held to discuss the Capital Penny Sales Tax (Referendum). Out of that meeting came a motion to accept three appointments from the County, two from the City and and one from the town of Mayesville to the Penny Sales Tax Commission. Herb McClary, David Bagwell and Traci Nelson came from the County; Earl Wilson and Kimberly Rauschenbach from the City and Nancy Williams from Mayesville.
Mixon noted the weekend prior saw the Fourth Quadrant Stash the Trash litter kickoff event at R.E. Davis College Prep. The schools have shown strong support for our litter efforts, as have several churches, he said. The coming weeks will see litter pickups. He also reminded Council of upcoming meetings and workshops regarding the Budget.
During the Public Comments, seven residents advocated for possible action on dirt roads. A Sumter resident voiced concerns about a roaming dog in his neighborhood. He also asked about the Red Bay Bridge and Chairman McCain explained the S.C. DOT is in charge of that.
The meeting adjourned at 7:11 p.m.

Sumter Veteran Dwyer leads Pledge of Allegiance
Sumter Veteran Robert Dwyer Tuesday evening led the Pledge of Allegiance before Sumter County Council’s regular meeting.
Dwyer served our Nation in the U.S. Army from Jan. 1985 to Jan. 1988. He’s the current 3rd Vice Commander of American Legion Post 202.
Dwyer lives in District 6, which is represented by Chairman James T. McCain Jr.
