Lorraine Washington-Dennis began her career with Sumter County Government in 1996 as a Grants Writer and she has been honored to receive several promotions during her tenure. In 1998, Mrs. Dennis was promoted to the Human Resources Director, in 2007 she was promoted to HRD/Deputy Administrator, and Lorraine is currently serving as the Assistant County Administrator since 2011.
A native of Sumter, South Carolina, Lorraine received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Professional English from Benedict College, and a Masters Degree in Public Administration from Troy State University. Prior to working for Sumter County, she was employed by Wateree Community Action Agency as a Community Outreacher. She was later employed by the Sumter City-County Planning Commission as a Community Development Specialist, and was later promoted to the position of Land Use Planner. Ms. Dennis was also employed by the Office of the Governor, Department of Economic Opportunity as a Field Representative.
Lorraine is involved in many community activities and holds memberships in various organizations including The Sumter County League of Women Voters (Past President), Festival on the Avenue Steering Committee, Sumter County African American Museum Board of Directors, The Sumter Branch NAACP, Wateree Community Actions Board of Directors (Past Chairperson). She is also a member of the Sumter Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. She is a former member of IPMA-HR and SHRM.
Mrs. Dennis is a member of Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church where she serves as a Trustee, and Enrichment Center Board Chairman. She is married to Sheriff Anthony Dennis, and they are the very proud parents of a twelve (12) year old son, Grayson Anthony.
Mrs. Dennis’ motto is: Always place God first in your life, and everything else will fall into place.
