Recognition of Deputy Timothy Adams who received the J.P. Strom Award, which is the highest and most prestigious award given to a graduate of the S.C. Criminal Justice Academy. Deputy Adams obtained the highest academic average throughout the 12-week Basic Law Enforcement Certification program at the Academy. This award is only awarded to one student in each class. This is only the second time since 1988 an officer from Sumter has been given such an award.

The United States Department of Justice and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) is again partnering with state and local law enforcement agencies (The Sumter Sheriff’s Office and the Sumter Police Department) to conduct the fifth National Take Back Initiative (NTBI) on Saturday, September 29th, 2012 for the collection of unused, expired or unwanted prescription drugs.
