Sumter County Council met late Tuesday afternoon with members of a consulting firm hired by the Sumter School District’s Board of Trustees as part of the search for the next superintendent.

Dr. Kevin Castner, Mary Ann Blaskowitz, Dr. Percy Mack and Dr. Frank Morgan of B.W.P. and Associates, an Illinois-based consulting firm hired by the board, spoke with Council Chairman James T. McCain Jr., Vice Chairman Jimmy Byrd and fellow council members Eugene Baten, Vivian Fleming-McGhaney, Chris Sumpter and Artie Baker.

On Wednesday McCain said the discussion involved board members weighing in on what attributes and experience the next superintendent of the school district should possess, along with the strengths and weaknesses of Sumter.

There will be a focus group meeting about the superintendent search from 11 a.m. to noon on Thursday, Nov. 29 in the Iris Room of Central Carolina Technical College’s Health Sciences Building. Three community forums are also slated for 6 p.m. on Thursday at Sumter High School, Lakewood High School and Crestwood High School.
