    Feb 12 2020 Sumter County Council recognizes American Legion Public Safety Award Winners 9

    Sumter County Council Tuesday evening recognized five first responders making a difference in our community.

    Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Sr. Deputy Kyle Hake, Sumter Police Department Lt. Charles Banqhart, Sumter-Lee Regional Detention Center Sr. Detention Officer William Behuniak, Sumter County Emergency Medical Services Lt. Kimberly Graham and Sumter Fire Department Chief Karl Ford were recently recognized by American Legion Post 15 as Public Safety Award Winners in 2019 for their respective departments.

    After Tuesday’s regular meeting, County Council Chairman James T. McCain Jr. said he and his fellow council members greatly appreciate the work ethic and dedication to our community exemplified by law enforcement officers, firefighters, paramedics and emergency medical technicians.

    “They make us proud each and every day,” he added.

    Chief Ford was unable attend and accepting on his behalf was Sumter Fire Department Division Chief Steve Dara.
