• Mayewood MS open as shelter, county government closed Sept. 13 & 14

    The offices of City of Sumter and Sumter County Government will be closed Thursday, Sept. 13 and Friday, Sept. 14 due to Hurricane Florence.

    We are anticipating a return to a normal schedule at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 17.

    City of Sumter trash, recycling and debris pickup will be canceled Friday but is expected to resume normal services on Monday. Sumter County's Convenience Centers and the landfill will also be closed Friday to Sunday with the expectation of reopening on Monday.

    Mayewood Middle School at 4300 East Brewington Road has been opened to serve as a shelter. The American Red Cross and the S.C. Department of Social Services are in charge of the shelter and pets are not allowed.
