Sumter Veteran Robbie Baker Sr. led the Pledge of Allegiance before Tuesday’s County Council meeting.
Clerk to Council Mary Blanding read a brief bio of Baker, who served our Nation in the U.S. Army from 1959 to 1962. He retired as the Assistant Fire Chief with the City of Sumter after serving 22 years. He owned a fire extinguisher business for 45 years until it was recently sold, and he’s a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 15. He has been married to his beautiful wife Barbara for 66 years and they have two sons, one of whom is Sumter County Coroner Robbie Baker Jr.
Baker Sr. and his wife have four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He currently lives in District 5, which is represented by Councilwoman Vivian Fleming-McGhaney.
Thank you for your service, Mr. Baker.
