Gary M. Mixon was born April 20th in Sumter, SC. He is the son of the late Harry Mixon and Travis Mixon. He is a lifelong resident of Sumter County and is married to Robin Thames Mixon of Sumter. They have three children: Brittanie, Morgan, and Clay.
Gary was appointed County Administrator in July 2011. He has 26 years experience in local government, which 24 years was with Sumter County. Prior to becoming County Administrator, he served four years as Deputy County Administrator, and 22 years as Recreation and Parks Director.
Gary is a graduate of Sumter High School. He has a Bachelor of Science Degree from Erskine College and a Masters in Public Administration from Troy State University.
Gary is Past President of the Sumter Lions Club, Past President of the South Carolina Recreation and Parks Association, Graduate of the Sumter Chamber of Commerce Leadership Sumter Program Class IX, and a Level II Certificate by the South Carolina Association of Counties for Public Officials.

Lorraine Dennis - Assistant County Administrator
Lorraine Washington-Dennis began her career with Sumter County Government in 1996 as the Grants Writer and she has been honored to receive several promotions during her tenure.
In 1998, Mrs. Dennis was promoted to the Human Resources Director,and in 2007 she was promoted to HRD/Deputy Administrator. Currently, she is serving as the Assistant County Administrator, a position she's held since 2011.
A native of Sumter, South Carolina, Lorraine received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Professional English from Benedict College, and a Master's Degree in Public Administration from Troy State University. Prior to working for Sumter County, she was employed by Wateree Community Action Agency as a Community Outreacher. She was later employed by the Sumter City-County Planning Commission as a Community Development Specialist, and was later promoted to the position of Land Use Planner. Mrs. Dennis was also employed by the Office of the Governor, Department of Economic Opportunity, as a Field Representative.
Lorraine is involved and hold memberships in various organizations including The Sumter County League of Women Voters (Past President), Festival On The Avenue Board of Directors (Chairman), Mount Zion Enrichment Center Board of Directors (Chairman), graduate of Leadership Sumter, graduate of Tuomey Fellows, Shaw AFB Commander Program, Sumter Branch NAACP (Life Member), and former member of Habitat for Humanity Board of Directors. She is also a member of the Sumter Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated.
