Now that we’re into spring and summer is right around the corner, it’s the perfect time to remind kids about how to remain safe in various environments and situations.
Safe Kids Sumter County, sponsored by The Tuomey Foundation, held the first day of its annual Kids Fest Tuesday morning at the Sumter County Civic Center. Cheryl Jackson, who coordinates Safe Kids Sumter County, said hundreds of second graders from public and private schools have the chance to learn about safety around the water and boats, pedestrian safety, sports and recreation safety, bicycling safety, playground safety, safe sanitary practices, online safety, fire safety and more.
The many participants include: Sumter Fire Department, Sumter County Department of Health and Environmental Control, Sumter Behavioral Health Services, the City of Sumter’s Palmetto Tennis Center and Aquatics Center, S.C. Department of Public Safety, Palmetto Health Tuomey, Evening Pilot Club of Sumter, Sumter Family Health Center, S.C. Safe Routes to School, YMCA of Sumter, Sumter County Recreation and Parks Department, Sumter County Library, Sumter County Sheriff’s Office, Sandhills Medical Foundation and AirCare, a medical transport helicopter service.
Kids Fest continues on Wednesday morning at the Sumter County Civic Center.
